The Saint Joe football team captured their first victory of the year in a rout of rival Saint Andrews 28-7.

Senior quarterback Andrew Sanli lead the way with three touchdowns and over 150 yards rushing.

“I told myself I was going to play hard the whole game and do whatever I could to help the team win,” said Sanli. “We scored a few times, got some momentum and continued that throughout the game.”

The Bruins scored on the opening drive of the game. Saint Andrews answered with a touchdown of their own on their first offensive possession, tying the game at 7.

Later in the first half, starting quarterback Brock Morris went down. Sanli and Keagan Helms, another senior, stepped up to take snaps at the quarterback position.

”I got hurt early in the game, but I was extremely proud to see my teammates step up and take care of business,” said Morris.

The teams went into half tied at 7.

In the second half, the Bruins took control of the game. The defense played an excellent half, pitching a shutout over the last two quarters.

A crucial moment in the game came when Keagan Helms intercepted a pass from Saint Andrews quarterback Aaron Cooper. Helms returned the ball down the sideline, and the Bruins capitalized with a touchdown.

The offense tacked on two addition touchdowns and sealed the win.

The offensive line dominated, especially in the second half. They made huge holes for Sanli and Helms to run. They wore down the Saint defense and put the team in great position to win.

Behind that offensive line, the team rushed for over 300 yards. Remarkably, the Bruins ended the game with exactly 0 passing yards, only attempting to pass on 3 occasions.

Sam Harrison, the center on the offensive line, said, “Saint Andrews came out in a different lineup than what we expected, but the offensive line learned how to adjust mid-game. That just goes to show how much we are maturing and growing as a line together.”

Getting the first win of the year has lead to a significant boost in team morale.

After the big win, the team hopes to carry the momentum into this week, when they take on the West Lincoln Bears from Brookhaven.

The Bears are 2-2 on the year and feature a heavy dose of rushing on the offensive side.

Their offensive line is big, and the team utilizes that in the play calling.

As for the Bruins, they look to once again dominate in the rushing game.

The team has been practicing hard this week, watching film and putting together a great game plan.

The team is confident heading into the matchup and hope to add another win to their record.
