The Lady Bruins defeated Puckett Attendance Center in 3 sets last Thursday in the first round of the state playoffs. Next, they will take on Our Lady Academy at home on Monday at 5:30 pm.

“We played really well against Puckett last week,” said Dallas Hill, who plays on the right side.

She added, “We got on a roll in the first two sets; we were passing well, playing good defense, playing with a lot of energy and took care of those sets. In the third set, we got behind, but were able to get some stops on defense and come back to win.”

The Bruins finished the regular season with an overall record of 19-10. They were 8-2 in district play, finishing second to rival Saint Andrews.

The team had some big wins against Northwest Rankin, Pearl and Warren Central. They now look to build off the regular season to hit their stride in the postseason.

The Bruins will have their work cut out for them, as the OLA Crescents come into the second round matchup 34-5 overall.

“I think we’re peaking at the right time,” said senior Ellie Heilman. “We have learned from the regular season, and now we’re using that experience to preform our best. We have done a good job at practice this week, and we will be ready to play Monday.”
