St. Joe has participated in the Mississippi Youth Legislature since 2000. Over the years, St. Joe students have demonstrated immense talent in debate and have worked very hard to pass their own bills.

This year, the St. Joe delegation consisted of students from grades 10 through 12, and they certainly made their mark. Three of the bills promoted by the youth governor were bills of St. Joe students, and all three bills were passed and signed.

St. Joe students received the following awards:

Most Outstanding Bill: Lake Dodson

Most Outstanding Representative: Lake Dodson

Outstanding Senator: Andrew Sanli

Outstanding Representative: Alex Shelton, Jack Clements, Zach Shelton

Delegation Award: John Baladi

Students who participated in Youth Leg left downtown Jackson with a greater appreciation for government and skills they will use the rest of their lives. St. Joe adviser and ninth grade history teacher, Mrs. Jenna Murphy, participated in Youth Leg when she was in high school, and still uses what she learned to this day.

“Youth Leg showed me how important it is to listen before deciding a course of action,” said Mrs. Murphy
