During these next few weeks, tryouts will be held for St. Joe’s cheerleading squad and dance team.

Tryouts first start off this week for Spirit Steppers, St. Joe’s dance team. Those who are trying out are required to attend a clinic Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the St. Joe Gym.

Friday, Feb. 28 tryouts will officially happen beginning at 3 p.m. All St. Joe girls from rising freshmen to rising seniors are invited to try out.

The next week, on March 2-4, those who are trying out will attend a cheer clinic from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The official tryout will happen on Friday, March 5 at 3:30 p.m. St. Joe rising freshmen to rising seniors are also invited to join.

All students who are trying out are required to turn in teacher evaluations into the front office. These evaluations will be used by coaches to determine who will be on the teams. Also, teacher evaluations will be used to determine team captains from those juniors who are trying out.

For many juniors, this is their last time trying out for a St. Joe sport as this is an indication of their upcoming senior year. “This year is my last year trying out for cheer, and it is emotional,” said junior Augusta Hirn, “because it’s my first ‘last’ and senior year will be full of a lot of ‘lasts.’”
