Bruin Soccer falls short as Bruin Basketball prevails

The past two weeks has been busy for Bruin sports. While the soccer season came to a close, basketball season has just entered playoffs.
Boys’ soccer closed their season with a 2-1 win against the Philidelphia Eagles on January 8th. However, the girls’ team had a phenomenal 6-4 season and advanced far into the playoffs. Following their 10-1 win against the Byhalia Indians, the Lady Bruins suffered an unfortunate 7-0 loss at the North State Championship against arch-rival St. Andrews Saints.
Despite their unruly end to the season, both teams are proud of how far they made it, especially the girls, as the teams consist of great lowerclassmen talent.
For Bruin Basketball, their season is still alive. On Friday, the boys’ team suffered a tough 46-45 loss against the South Delta Bulldogs in an overtime shootout. The girls’ team, however, came out on top with a 37-32 win against the Pelahatchie Chiefs. The Lady Bruins’ wins made them 10-0 in district play, and thus, Region 4-2A district champions. Their title is a historic one as this is their first since 1981.
Following district play, the Bruins still have a lot of work ahead of them as both teams make their playoff runs starting this week. Despite their loss on Friday, the boys’ team is entering the playoffs as the #2 seed.
