Every year, two seniors are chosen to represent the Bruins as Mr. and Miss St. Joe, one of St. Joe’s highest honors. This year, Katie Corken was voted by students in grades 9th through 12th to be Miss St. Joe.

The Bear Facts sat down with Corken and filed this report.


The Bear Facts: How does it make you feel to have this high of an honor?

Corkern: I feel extremely humbled and privileged to have been chosen to receive such an important honor.

The Bear Facts: How would your seventh-grade self react to you receiving this honor?

Corkern: My seventh-grade self would be shocked, happy, and proud of me.

The Bear Facts: What clubs, organizations, or sports are you involved in here at St. Joe?

St. Joe Scoop

Corkern: I am a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, National English Honor Society, and National Spanish Honor Society. I am involved in the retreat team and a captain of both the Varsity Cheer and the softball team.

The Bear Facts: What are some hobbies that you may have outside of school?

Corkern: Running, hanging out with friends, and playing with my dog, Abby.

The Bear Facts: What has been your best memory at St. Joe, and why?

Corkern: My best memory was being on Homecoming Court freshman year because I was representing my class.

The Bear Facts: What is your favorite St. Joe event?

Corkern: Football, baseball, and softball games.

The Bear Facts: Who has been your favorite faculty member at St. Joe, and why?

Corkern: Honestly, I don’t have a specific favorite faculty member. I have had truly amazing teachers each year who have truly cared about me academically as well as personally.

The Bear Facts: What has senior year meant to you?

Corkern: It means so much to me to have been able to attend school in person my senior year. I have enjoyed seeing my friends and teachers each day and getting to participate in special senior privileges.

The Bear Facts: How has St. Joe impacted your life?

Corkern: I feel that St. Joe has impacted my life in a positive way. I have made memories here that will stay with me forever. My faith in God and myself has grown stronger each year because I was able to attend a Catholic school that is focused on being a faith-based community.

The Bear Facts: What do you hope to do beyond high school?

Corkern: I will be attending Mississippi State University in the fall of 2021. While at Mississippi State University. I plan to pursue a degree in Applied Technology in Medical and Health Service Management.
