Bianca McCarty, Co-editor
Bianca McCarty, a senior at St. Joseph Catholic School, is co-editor of The Bear Facts, alongside Leah Clark. McCarty served as a staff writer during her ninth-grade year until she was promoted to assistant editor, during her sophomore year, and co-editor her junior year.
McCarty received the first place award from MSPA for in-depth reporting in 2016 while in seventh grade.
In the spring of 2019, McCarty assisted the conversion of The Bear Facts from a print publication to a 100 percent digital online-only publication.
At the 2020 MSPA Best in Mississippi Awards, McCarty’s article, “Catholic community reaches out after ICE raids,” won Best News Story and was a finalist for Best Feature Story. She also won Best Review for her column, “What makes a good high school story?”
Besides working for The Bear Facts, McCarty is also a part of the Spirit Steppers, a member of the Retreat Team, and the scribe on the BruinTHON Committee. She is in the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, International Thespian Society, National English Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and International Quill & Scroll Honor Society for High School Journalists.
